Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions (SPWA), FilmDistrict and Ghost House Pictures are teaming for a deal in which Sony Pictures will distribute the remake of "The Evil Dead" currently in the works.
Sam Raimi's original classic followed five friends who hole up at a remote cabin where they discover a Book of the Dead. A demonic force is unleashed possessing each until only one, Ash (Bruce Campbell), is left to fight for survival.
Fede Alvarez is directing the film from a script he and Rodo Sayagues co-wrote before Diablo Cody did revisions on it. Raimi, Campbell and Rob Tapert will produce.
The deal, which doesn't include the U.K. and France, was locked in place ahead of production which is being fast tracked to start sometime next year.
