"Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutcher will star in The Guardian, the Disney drama to be directed by Andrew Davis (Holes). The project centers on Jake Cummings (Kutcher), a rebellious young man whose life is veering out of control. He enlists in the Coast Guard, where he forms a mentor-type friendship with a legendary rescue swimmer (Costner) who lost his crew in a fatal crash. The older man helps turn around the life of the younger man by teaching him the meaning of sacrifice. The production is currently scouting locations in Louisiana for an October start...." (full details) "Pathe Pictures Intl. has set Cillian Murphy ("28 Days Later") and Liam Cunningham to star in "The Wind That Shakes the Barley," an Ireland-set drama to be directed by Ken Loach. Murphy and Cunningham will play brothers who join the guerilla armies formed to do battle with the British Black and Tan squads trying to block Ireland's bid for independence in 1919. Paul Laverty is scripting. Murphy will be seen this Summer in "Batman Begins" and "Red Eye"...." (full details)

"Blair Underwood, Boris Kodjoe Henry Simmons, Lynn Whitfield, Jenifer Lewis, and Tangi Miller are set to star in the "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" sequel entitled "Madea's Family Reunion". Tyler Perry, who not only will be returning as the three characters (Madea, Uncle Joe, and Brian), will be making his directorial debut. Shooting begins in July and centers a round a pistol happy granny named Madea (Tyer Perry). She tries to hold a family reunion, a funeral for her sister and a wedding for her granddaughter all on the same weekend..." (full details)

"Musician-actor Andre Benjamin has signed a first-look producing deal for feature and cable TV projects with MTV and Nickelodeon via his Moxie Turtle shingle. First project under the pact will be "The Hit," a Nick Movies feature for Benjamin to star in and co-produce. Lensing is set for 2006 on the pic, which Paramount will distribute. Based on an original idea by Lamar Damon ("Slap Her ... She's French"), "The Hit" centers on a boy trying to find his single father a new wife when a mysterious man moves in next door and turns out to be Cupid..." (full details)
