The Director's New Selections

Once again its been a very busy day in the trades for those who have the job of directing films as many of them have selected their next projects and announced it in industry bible Variety.

A Good Year "Ridley Scott will direct the adaptation of Peter Mayle's upcoming novel for Fox 2000 and has signed "Serendipity" scribe Marc Klein to write the script. Scott plans to make it his next picture. Its the story of a failing London banker who moves to Provence after inheriting a vineyard, only to encounter a beautiful Californian who has her own claim on the estate..." (more info).

Just Friends "Roger Kumble is in negotiations to direct the comedy "Just Friends" for New Line Cinema. "Just Friends" tells the tale of a likable everyman who is rejected by his true love, who says she wants to be just friends. Moving across the country, he transforms himself into a selfish womanizer but then returns unexpectedly to his past persona when he reconnects with the girl who broke his heart..." (more info).

Sin City "Robert Rodriguez has committed to direct "Sin City," an adaptation of the Frank Miller graphic noir crime novel series. Dimension Films co-chairman Bob Weinstein has given Rodriguez the go-ahead to begin shooting next month in Austin, Texas. Rodriguez has already shot the film's opening with Josh Hartnett and Marley Shelton, and he's now casting the remaining roles as the rest of the film gets under way in March..." (more info).

The Brave One & The Sparrow "George Miller is in negotiations to direct two Warner Bros. Pictures projects that Michael Seitzman has been tapped to write. The first is "The Brave One," to be produced by Joel Silver. The project is described as "Death Wish" with a female protagonist. Seitzman's second undertaking is "The Sparrow," an adaptation of the acclaimed novel by Mary Doria Russell abouta Jesuit priest who leads a mission to a newly discovered extraterrestrial culture, a mission that ends in catastrophe..." Thornwood Circle "Helmer Chuck Russell ("The Scorpion King") has committed to direct "Thornwood Circle," a sexually charged supernatural thriller that Richard Jefferies ("Cold Creek Manor") is penning. The pic centers on a young woman visited by a series of erotic dreams that are at first a welcome distraction but soon take a dangerous turn..." (more info).
