Aja Talks Hills Have Eyes Remake

French filmmaker Alexandre Aja has made some waves abroad in the horror scene with his slasher Haute tension (High Tension), which is gearing up for a U.S. theatrical release this Summer. So much so, in fact, that he hired Aja and his writing partner Grégory Levasseur to remake his classic 1977 shocker "The Hills Have Eyes."

Now Playing Magazine recently chatted with Aja about the remake and he confirmed "We already finished the script and we are in the middle of the prep right now. Wes Craven is producing the movie...I think right now, because we are so in love with the show and we really want to try to [build on] what we did in High Tension, we tried to push the fear and tried to explore a little bit more the fear process [in Hills]."

The remake, which is scheduled to start shooting in June, will maintain the "civilized family gets lost in the wilderness" theme, while also adding a few twists - both new and classic. "I think we keep the spirit and we keep the savage and the nasty [tone] of the original one, but we try to bring the movie into the more Straw Dogs way..;more of a survival way. It's more about the family facing the unknown in the hills... a little bit different. I hope it's going to be very scary."
