"The Hours" author Michael Cunningham has begun scripting "Good Grief," an adaptation of the Lolly Winston novel that is being tailored as a potential screen vehicle for Julia Roberts. The book was bought by Universal for producer Marc Platt last year. Roberts is apparently intrigued with playing the novel's 36-year-old protagonist, who tries to piece her life back together after losing her husband to cancer. "Cameron Diaz will star in "Holiday," a Sony Pictures Entertainment comedy that Nancy Meyers ("Something's Gotta Give", "What Women Want") wrote and will direct this fall. "Holiday" is an ensemble romantic comedy with five central characters. Diaz, whose deal is now being negotiated, will play a woman with man trouble until she crosses paths with a woman from a small English village with a similar dilemma. Diaz will next be seen in the Curtis Hanson-directed "In Her Shoes," and is expected to once again give the vocals for Princess Fiona in the planned third "Shrek" movie..." (full details)

Production began this week in Toronto on "Saw 2," the sequel to the hugely successful horror thriller "Saw." Pic stars Donnie Wahlberg, Franky G., Glenn Plummer, Emmanuelle Vaugier, Beverley Mitchell and Eric Knudsen, with Shawnee Smith, Dina Meyer and Tobin Bell returning from the original. Lions Gate Films Intl. will be presenting the pic to international buyers for the first time in Cannes.
