Pedro Almodovar's next film will be "Volver" ("Return"), toplining Penelope Cruz and Carmen Maura reports Variety. El Deseo production shingle confirmed the choice Thursday morning.
Pedro Almodovar also had been prepping "La tempestad sonada" (literally, "Dreamed Storm"), a drama with a role for Cruz, but he has decided to go with "Volver." The generational comedy concerns three women who travel to Madrid seeking a better life.
Project marks a return to the helmer's geographical and emotional roots. Focus Features is handling international sales. Lensing will begin in July in Madrid and La Mancha.
Maura was the star of Pedro Almodovar's earliest movies in the 1980s as well as his breakthrough titles "Law of Desire" and "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown."
