Trade Breaks: Marvel, Flicka, Bubble

"Paramount has inked a lucrative, exclusive distribution deal with Marvel for films based on the comicbook publisher's remaining characters. Many of the company's A-list characters are already taken by other studios - "Spider-Man" at Sony, "Iron Man" at New Line and "X-Men" at Fox. However there's around 5,000 other comic-book characters remaining including such high profile titles as "Captain America" and "Nick Fury" which will go first. Paramount isn't putting up any production money; it will receive a fee for marketing and distributing an initial 10 movies, the first of which is expected to hit theaters in two years. "The remake of 1943 classic "My Friend Flicka" has resulted in fatal injuries to two horses says the American Humane Association. A quarter horse tripped during a rodeo scene and broke one of its back legs. An investigation was being conducted to determine whether guidelines were followed during filming. "2929 Entertainment has signed a six-picture deal with director Steven Soderbergh ("Traffic", "Ocean's Eleven"). The deal will see Soderbergh's films released simultaneously across theatrical, TV and home video platforms. Soderbergh will have creative control over all the films' content, with each produced in 1080i high-definition format.
