'Starsky' People Talk Their Future

By Garth Franklin Monday February 23rd 2004 08:50PM

Along with the two stars, the supporting cast of the new comedy spoke about their movie at this weekend's press junket in Los Angeles and lovable rascal 'Smilin Jack Ruby' was there to jot down the good stuff for CHUD:

Todd Philips (Director) In regards to Universal's "The Six Million Dollar Man" with Jim Carrey, Phillips says "I don't have the approach yet figured out.  We're starting our draft - we actually started it entirely on our own.  I haven't looked at other drafts that existed... but certainly if you had me and Jim Carrey doing it, we were going to set out and do something funny".

Will the be an "Old School" sequel? No Chance - "I had a little fall-out with DreamWorks over this movie Eurotrip.  I felt like they really marketed it off of my two movies even though I had nothing to do with it and it looked like the worst movie ever, but somehow I got dragged into it and it made me crazy.  I said, 'If you do this, I won't do Old School 2.'  And they said, 'Well, this is business and we've got to worry about this movie right now.'  So, I said, 'All right'. I won't see it [Eurotrip] and it pissed me off, so I won't do business with them.  It's a bummer"

Snoop Dogg (Huggy Bear)

"I'm in the process of working on this "213" record - that's me, Warren G and Nate Dogg.  It should be out late April or early May.  I'm also developing a couple of scripts and looking at a couple of scripts that have been offered to me, too... I want to write, direct, produce.  But I want to take steps.  I don't want to just jump in because I sold a lot of records and feel like I can just jump in the movie world.  I want to learn the movie world the way I learned the music world".

Vince Vaughn (Reese Feldman)

On his proposed comedic teaming with Jon Faverau - "We still have the 'Hasidic Western' about the Hasidic Jew who is the gunfighter, but we haven't been able to get that set up.  It's a great script.  I play a guy who isn't a gunfighter who is wanted for sleeping with the wrong guy's wife.  Jon plays a guy who is searching for the guys who killed his family, but he can't shoot his gun on Saturday, because it's the Sabbath.  He's a killer - he's the fastest gun in the west - but he plays it very dead-on.  So, I make like I'm going to help him find these people, but really when people come and try to kill us, I say, 'It's because he's a Jew!  He's a Christ-killer and he dresses like one and people want him dead.'  But really, they're after me because this guy has a hit on me.  I think it's a very smart, very funny movie"

What else is he up to? "I'm shooting Be Cool right now - the sequel to Get Shorty.  It's going very well.  I play Raji, a record producer/promoter.  Then I'm doing Wedding Crashers with Owen.  Then, I set up a movie I'm producing at MGM about toy salesmen - rival salesmen...  Then there's a movie I set up at Revolution called The Break-Up, which is a romantic comedy.  I've been offered a lot of romantic comedies and I never liked them.  With The Break-Up, I thought, 'What about a movie where from the very beginning, it's the break-up?'  I got the idea very much from The Odd Couple - having people put in that place where the tone isn't War of the Roses where it's very dark, but they're fighting over stuff that most of us do like, 'You didn't do the dishes' or 'You left this here'".
