Another Last Detail To Clear Up

"The Last Detail" stars Jack Nicholson and Randy Quaid look to be teaming up again three decades later. Darryl Ponicsan, whosenovel became Robert Towne's stylish script under Hal Ashby's direction, has written the sequel "Last Flag Flying" said Quaid to Variety.

"It's a moving revisitation of our characters re-captured by our relationships," Quaid continued. In the 1973 film, two Navy men are assigned to guard a young prisoner in transit to serve out his sentence. Along the way, they get to know each other and the young man, who begins the journey resigned to his fate, gets a taste of the world and why he might not want to spend his youth behind bars.

In the sequel, all that's been revealed is that Nicholson runs a bar and that Morgan Freeman looks to be stepping into the Otis Young role. All are awaiting a final script before committing. Nicholson was just as cautious about joining Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg in "The Departed." Nicholson heads to New York next week to begin hefty rehearsals before filming next month.
