CSI Files recently posted an exclusive interview with Anthony E. Zuiker, the 'CSI' creator and current 'CSI: New York' showrunner, in which he revealed his plans to tell more character-driven stories on the show.
In the interview, Zuiker revealed that 'CSI: New York' lead character Mac Taylor (played by Gary Sinise) may be getting romantically involved with recurring character Jane Parsons (played by Sonya Walger). "We wanted to involve Gary in some sort of possible friendly love interest to show he's moved on from Claire's death and 9/11."
Zuiker also said this season's final episodes will focus even more strongly on capturing the spirit of the Big Apple. "We're going to do the murder of a Red Sox fan, a very New York story. We're also going to do a nanny park story, where a nanny dies in a nanny park. So we're going to establish ourselves in a New York identity by telling stories that could only be done in New York. And we're going to loosen the characters up. We'll be planning on putting our characters off balance, and we'll have a really fun, creative blueprint for season two. Very character driven [though] I think the franchise as a whole will always live and die by the mystery."
Besides Mac, Zuiker also promised to focus on the show's other characters. He hinted that Danny Messer was much deeper involved with the criminal Tanglewood Boys gang than he led on during the recent episode "Tanglewood," and said he'd like to have medical examiner Dr. Sheldown Hawkes file an application to go out in the field. And Zuiker said they were considering a cross-over between 'CSI: Miami' and 'CSI: New York' next season.
