Filmmakers Respond To "Breaking Dawn" Leak

Many may have dismissed it as an April Fool at first, but Friday saw online fandom burning up as at least dozen or more photos from "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" leaked online, including what looked like screen captures from the film's steamy sex scene between Bella (Kristen Stewart) and Edward (Robert Pattinson). One shot even seemed to be mid-coitus.

Understandably the studio has been cracking down on those shots ever since and done a pretty thorough job of keeping it off the major sites. Due to the sensitive nature of the material, I opted not to post the leaked photos when they hit.

Now author Stephenie Meyer, director Bill Condon, and producer Wyck Godfrey have released a statement regarding them and are asking fans not to share them online:

"As some of you may know, pictures and screen grabs of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn as a work in progress have leaked on the internet. We are extremely proud of this film and also extremely heartbroken to see it out there at this stage.

The film and these images are not yet ready or in their proper context. They were illegally obtained and their early dissemination is deeply upsetting to the actors, the filmmakers and Summit who are working so hard to bring these movies to fruition to you in November 2011 and November 2012.

Please, for those who are posting, stop. And please, though the temptation is high, don't view or pass on these images. Wait for the film in its beautiful, finished entirety to thrill you."

The news comes shortly after Meyer dropped two surprising pieces about the franchise, including a big potential SPOILER for the upcoming first movie. You've been warned.

Asked about the cliffhanger ending, Meyer tells USA Today where she thinks the cutoff point will be between the two parts of 'Dawn' - "When Bella opens her eyes as a vampire. That's the way it's been shot. They can still do it any other way, but I think that's the general idea. You kind of have to get there in the first film. That way you have all the time in the world to explore being a vampire and those exhilarating first moments."

Meyer also says she's looking into writing a new "Twilight" spin-off series that will focus on Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) and his relationship with Renesmee (Mackenzie Foy) - the daughter of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). The intent is to turn the new series into films as well, despite the potential controversy over the character.
