Trade Breaks: Washington, Janssen, Bay

Denzel Washington will star for director Spike Lee in "Inside Man," for Universal. The drama will be produced by Imagine's Brian Grazer. Clive Owen is in talks to co-star. Washington will play a tough cop who matches wits with a clever bank robber, whose plan to pull off the perfect robbery disintegrates into a tense hostage situation. The script was written by Russell Gewirtz and Menno Meyjes. Washington will make "Inside Man" as he continues to develop two directing vehicles "The Great Debaters" -- which took root with Harvey Weinstein at Miramax -- and Alcon's "Brothers in Arms"..." Famke Janssen has signed a deal to return for "X-Men 3," to be directed by Matthew Vaughn. As expected, Hugh Jackman has made a deal to return as Wolverine, and Halle Berry, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are moving the same way for a film to shoot this summer. A release date of May 26, 2006, is planned. The demise of Janssen's psychic character in the last go-around will not be ignored, as she will this time evolve into a character called the Phoenix..." Michael Bay is in talks to direct the DreamWorks/Paramount live-action adaptation of "The Transformers," Hasbro's popular 1980s toy line of giant robots that morph into cars, trucks, planes, ships and other technological creations. Bay would be reteaming with writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci who rewrote "Island" and wrote "Transformers." Shooting begins this Fall for a Thanksgiving 2006 release..." (full details)
