Syd Mead, the man behind the memorable designs for "Blade Runner", will design the sets for "District 9" helmer Neill Blomkampā€˜s upcoming second feature film "Elysium" reports Deadline.

Blomkamp and Media Rights Capital have been assembling the project on their own and have already landed Matt Damon, Sharlto Copley and Jodie Foster as cast members.

The R-rated project is set 100 years in the future and has social allegory elements ala "District 9". Pre-production begins in April for a July shoot in Vancouver and later in Mexico City.

The film went out to the studios this week and already Sony has preemptively picked up the property reports Heat Vision. Some sources are claiming the studio paid a whopping $120 million for the property, studio insiders however have denied it.

There was also chatter that Universal is in talks to co-finance the movie, apparently that's not the case. A late 2012 release is being targeted.
