WizardWorld March 2005 Report

By Garth Franklin Monday March 21st 2005 02:35PM

This past Saturday the WizardWorld convention in Long Beach, CA had a few movie related presentations which yours truly along with various other site webmasters, comic geeks, film people, publicists and public attended for a few hours. Amongst what was revealed, a big thanks to IESB for help with some of these btw:

Batman Begins The same six-minute piece aired in the UK the other week was shown here. Suffice it to say it looks great. Utilising footage from much of the film's first act and ending with brief glimpses of action, what's so effective here is that this feels like a real film. There's a deliberate story that seems to carefully unfold rather than a limped together bunch of action set pieces. There was also a glimpse at The Scarecrow in 'full effect', something the recent photos do not show off.

War of the Worlds A short making of featurette with the usual back slapping and a special intro for fans in attendance. Much like the trailer, it's both kind of frustrating and quite bold to be marketing an alien invasion movie without showing us any actual aliens or ships. The video therefore was mostly crowd shots of people running away from things and a few sound bites about what's in store. Has a lot of potential.

Fantastic Four Chris Evans confirmed he's signed for two sequels. A slightly more impressive clip was shown, the effects especially coming off much better than the earlier trailer hinted at.

The Punisher 2 "The Punisher sequel script is currently being worked on and they expect production to start in two months. Location wise it looks like Tampa is out and New York is in" said actor Thomas Jane to the IESB.

Thor "[David] Goyer is still involved and it is still probably the biggest saga out there and it will take time to develop it and right now we are in the stage of writing more of a Lord of the Rings style of film in between Goyer directing but we are in aggressive development on Thor" said Marvel's Avi Arad.

X-Men 3 Arad said "he hopes to have James Marsden reprise his role as Cyclops" and Marsden himself has already verbally committed to coming back.

Thanks to 'Robert' & 'Eddie'
