Late last year a bunch of journos visited the UK set of "Batman Begins" shooting in a converted hangar including a mate named David who'll be sending along his report soon. In the meantime. the first piece of a multi-part extensive report from the set has gone up at the best of the dedicated Bat sites - Batman on Film. Here's a sneak peek:
"Christopher Nolan is a softly spoken, well-groomed young man. Its hard to believe that BATMAN BEGINS is only his 4th film. Harder still is it to believe that WB would entrust him with such a huge project. "I grew up watching huge blockbusters and I've always enjoyed films that create whole worlds that provide escapism by creating worlds outside of the one you're actually in so its been a great opportunity to try that."
Chris confesses that he has always had a desire to make a big budget spectacle of a movie. "Yeah I don't know why, now I ever wonder why I ever wanted to do that (laughs). They had this great character sitting around that they weren't doing anything with since the previous sequels had run their course. I was just very interested in the idea of creating a BATMAN film that I thought had never been made. Which in a way was the one you'd expect them to have made first which was the origin story, the journey of the character from an ordinary person to Batman."
When asked what Christian Bale brings to the iconic character, Nolan has nothing but praise, comparing Bales work ethic to Bruce Wayne himself. "He's marvelous, he just brings an incredible focus. The thing with Bruce Wayne, is he doesn't have any superpowers unless you count his incredible will. Really he's just an ordinary guy. I think one of the reasons the character is so appealing as a superhero. Christian has an incredible degree of focus and determination, which is what allows Bruce Wayne to do these extraordinary things. I think that's the main characteristic of his personality.""
