Danny DeVito's has been busier behind the camera more than being in front of it in recent years, although he has been having a few acting gigs. DeVito is currently on screenss in Italy in the local romantic comedy "Christmas in Love," in which he plays the lover of a twentysomething hottie who disapproves of her father's extramarital fling with a young model.
Now, Variety reports that DeVito and producer Aurelio De Laurentiis are mulling a U.S. version, with DeVito possibly helming an English-lingo adaptation - "We're working it out. It has a good ironic twist. I think it would be funny in the United States, if we got the right people" says the actor-director.
The film itself was drubbed by critics for its base humour involving plenty of Viagra humor, plastic surgery cracks and snow frolicking. DeVito and soap star Ronn Moss were brought in to revamp the well-worn formula, the idea being that it should evolve from vulgar slapstick to more sophisticated below-the-belt trash.
Thanks to 'Crampy'.
