Justin Haythe ("Revolutionary Road") is in negotiations to pen the film adaptation of classic western series "The Lone Ranger" for Disney Pictures says Heat Vision.
The story follows a masked Texas Ranger in the American Old West who goes about fighting injustice with the help of his horse Silver and his Native-American sidekick Tonto. Johnny Depp is already set to star as Tonto, but the Ranger himself is not yet cast and a director is not yet attached (last year came rumors of George Clooney starring and Mike Newell directing).
Jerry Bruckheimer is producing. Previously scribes Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio ("Pirates of the Caribbean") were attached to write. Haythe previously penned the recent "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" adaptation setup at Disney that was scrapped due to the recent studio regime change.
