While "The Resurrection of the Christ" is not a sequel/spin-off to "The Passion of the Christ", it will apparently go further in terms of exploring the same subject matter reports Variety.
Producer Bill McKay is developing the $20 million project with Samuel Goldwyn Films which is scheduled for an Easter 2011 release. Jonas McCord ("The Body") will direct.
Dan Gordan ("The Hurricane," "Murder in the First") is writing the screenplay which follows the power, greed and ambition of those involved in the crucifixion -- Pontius Pilate, Herod, Caiaphas and Judas.
"It's as much about the key players as it is about Jesus. We want to bring in the 'Gladiator' dimension of the first century against the political milieu of the time" says McKay.
Filming will kick off in July and shoot over ten weeks across Israel, Morocco and Europe.
