Mere hours after Pixar announced a delay of "Cars" from November '05 to June '06, Dreamworks has announced a similar arrangement for the next "Shrek" movie with a shot from Nov' 06 to May '07 for the third film in the CG animated comedy franchise.
In an official release, Jeffrey Katzenberg said "We believe there are more than a half a dozen strong release windows available annually for our films...The sheer magnitude of the 'Shrek' franchise has led us to conclude that a May release date - with a DVD release around the holiday season - will enable us to best maximize performance and increase profitability, thereby generating enhanced asset value and better returns for our shareholders."
With "Spider-Man 3" aimed at a May 4th, 2007 release. "Shrek 3" will likely get a release around the middle of the month. DreamWorks Animation currently has "Madagascar" and the "Wallace & Gromit" movie scheduled for a May & October release next year.
Thanks to 'Cassie'.
