Lucky McKee, the man behind the critically loved but little seen horror flick "May, is already hard at work on his third project it seems. Whilst his second film entitled "The Woods" doesn't open til next year, McKee is already talking about an adaptation of the Jack Ketchum novel "Red" according to Dread Central.
"Red" focuses on a widowed old man, Avery Ludlow, whose harmless pet dog is killed by three teenagers. Ludlow makes efforts to bring this mindless attack into the public spotlight but no one listens save for a young television reporter, her efforts however are not enough and Ludlow seeks revenge his own way.
Stephen Susco, screenwriter of the recent "The Grudge" remake is adapting "Red" and explained how the project is progressing - "We set it up at United Artists where Lucky was doing The Woods. The idea was that he was going to shoot Red this fall. But with all the stuff going on over at UA things got thrown into a little bit of a snafu, but I think we're close to reaching a resolution on it. We've got some people who are interested in it and some actors who are really amazing are interested in it".
Susco says "Red" is a story that "Really strikes a chord. There's something so essentially and innately human about this guy's story and what he goes through. It has so much to speak on about the generational differences and what it means to be a man and what honor and what nobility means." Susco is also currently at work on a remake of "Prom Night" and a "Grudge" sequel.
