Canadian Production Cools Down

Over the past few months the US currency has weakened considerably against the rest of the world, and one of the big side effects is that filmmakers are now less likely to move their film productions outside the United States.

Canada is beginning to feel the pinch too with only a handful of smaller sci-fi style projects currently on the slate in Canada for early next year. Hollywood North Report has a breakdown of what'll soon be seen shooting up North:

"Hollow Man 2" Plot details are unknown, but shooting begins in Vancouver in January under the helm of Claudio Faeh.

"Painkiller Jane" Shooting begins in Vancouver next week on the Sanford Bookstaver-helmed TV pilot about a young Marine officer who is exposed to a biochemical weapon that endows her with self-healing powers, forcing her to work covertly fighting crime while running from military and medical officials who would exploit her gifts.

"Saving Milly" Dan Curtis directs this Toronto/Montreal CBS movie of the week production about a couple's twenty year marriage when the feisty female half is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.

"Plague City" David Wu directs this Lifetime movie of the week which just began shooting in Toronto. Story details unknown.

"Plague" Clive Barker produces this feature film that follows a mysterious apocalypse that leaves the world's children comatose and unresponsive. Upon waking, they lash out against their parents. Hal Masonberg directs the shoot which begins in February.
