Whilst out promoting his work in the "Barbershop" sequel in LA, Cedric the Entertainer spoke with LatinoReview about his upcoming slate of films, predominantly his re-imagining of the classic 'Honeymooners' concept:
Can you talk about The Honeymooners? The Honeymooners, were in development, we're really tighten up the script right now. Looking to shoot that in late spring, sometime in May and go ahead and get it in production. We're still excited about that, we haven't cast anybody other than me and Mike [Epps] as Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton. Once we get the script locked and make sure the story will due some justice to the TV show, and then we'll go ahead and start casting. But we're moving that pretty fast right now.
Is the film set in the past or not? Actually it's going to be modern day, still set in Brooklyn, still a bus driver. I don't know if we're going to use "To the moon Alice," cause its really a 50's / 60's kind of thing. But we may play with some version of that, maybe, "Up yours Alice." [Laughs] But I would also try to play with just some of the essence of the Gleason character, the way he did it and again because a lot of the slang and the stuff that they had was really kind of 50's / 60's and we just don't think it will translate well. So it will give an opportunity to make the character mine but at the same time I want to serve some of the nostalgic influences and make sure that the people who really love the TV show "The Honeymooners" and love Gleason get that...you know we're not doing a dis-service to it, but just kind of putting a little new spin on it.
What else are you doing? Just right now, I'm doing BE COOL with John Travolta as well as Lemony Snicket's with Jim Carrey. In Be Cool am Sin Russell, the music executive that becomes his [Travolta] kind of nemesis throughout the movie. Kind of a bad guy. In Lemony Snickte's I'm playing the detective that's trying to figure out what's going on with Jim Carrey and these kids, so that's fun too.
