Greengrass & Cameron's Next Gigs

By Garth Franklin Monday November 22nd 2004 12:12AM

Paul Greengrass, who directed "The Bourne Supremacy," is going to direct "The Watchmen" for Paramount Pictures according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project is based on the 1986 DC Comics limited series by Alan Moore. Darren Aronofsky had been attached to direct but bowed out because of scheduling conflicts. Aronofsky is shooting "The Fountain," starring Hugh Jackson. With Greengrass aboard, the project is now eyeing a possible 2006 release date .

Meanwhile, James Cameron was on NPR yesterday promoting his "Aliens of the Deep" documentary. Asked if he was going to make any more Hollywood films, Cameron answered that "Battle Angel Alita" was indeed his next film (finally confirming one of the worst kept hollywood secrets of the past year).
He's been scripting it for several years, the lead character will be a total CGI-character and that he's implementing some new 3D cameras that he's used on his "Aliens of the Deep" project. It's estimated to take a year and a half to complete but no time-tables or casting has yet happened.
