More deals are going down in Santa Monica right now at the AFM and here's the latest batch of reports:
- Lions Gate Films has acquired North American distribution rights to "Alone in the Dark," the feature film adaption of the Sega video game.
Lions Gate Films has picked up North American rights to Mike Barker's "A Good Woman," starring Scarlett Johansson and Helen Hunt. Pic bowed at the Toronto Film Festival and is an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's play "Lady Windemere's Fan".
Boutique sales and distribution company Lightning Entertainment has acquired international rights to Ariel Vromen's feature debut, the thriller "Simple Lies," starring Colin Hanks and Eric Balfour.
American World Pictures has grabbed rights to a slew of films, including teen comedy "Frostbite," starring Traci Lords.
- The Film Sales Co. has sealed a pact to rep rights to feature docu "The Big Question" in all English-language territories. Helmed by Francesco Cabras and Alberto Molinari, pic was shot entirely on the set of Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ." It includes interviews with the helmer and his cast.
Horror outfit BloodWorks and Peter Hoffman's Seven Arts have teamed to co-finance, produce and distribute a slate of horror films for theatrical and/or DVD distribution. First pic to be produced under the deal will be "Win, Lose or Die," from director Herschell Gordon Lewis.
ThinkFilm has acquired all U.S. rights to "5x2," the latest film from director "Swimming Pool" director Francois Ozon. The movie focuses on five key chapters in two people's lives, including such highlights as their first blush of sexual attraction, their wedding night and the birth of their first child. The story is told in reverse chronology.
Echo Bridge Entertainment is launching a domestic theatrical distribution arm in 2005 with the family drama "When Zachary Beaver Came to Town," starring Jonathan Lipnicki, and the Tobe Hooper-directed horror pic "Mortuary."
- Brian De Palma's "The Black Dahlia" will be the first pic from Signature Millennium, Moshe Diamant and Avi Lerner's new label, which will finance produce pics budgeted north of $40 million. Upcoming SM titles include Peter Hyams' "Hurricane Chaser" and the action comedy "BOHICA."
- Dimension Films has acquired the rights to redo "Doll Master," a South Korean horror pic directed by neophyte Jeong Yong-ki. Dimension inked for a remake as well as North American and Aussie distrib rights on the original. Story concerns a bunch of dolls that take on the lives of their owners after they're dead.
