Casting Couch: Streep, Lange, Stiles

sp; Myriad Pictures has acquired worldwide rights to drama "Dark Matter," and Greg Kinnear has joined the cast, starring opposite Meryl Streep and Chinese thesp Liu Ye. Pic was penned by Billy Shebar and will be directed by Chen Shi-Zheng, an opera director making his film feature debut. Inspired by a true story, its the tale of a Chinese academic in the US who dreams of winning the Nobel Prize for his dark matter theory. But when aspirations are thwarted by campus politics, tragedy follows. Streep portrays a university donor who befriends him. (more details) Jessica Lange, Neve Campbell and Evan Rachel Wood are attached to star in the Robin Swicord adaptation of "The Mermaids Singing." Set on an enchanted Irish island, romantic tale chronicles three generations of women, each of whom struggles with first loves and wrenching decisions that change their lives. (more details) Julia Stiles has joined the cast of ContentFilm Intl.'s "Burns," a biopic of 19th century Scottish poet Robert Burns (played by Gerard Butler). Stiles will try on a Scottish accent for the role of Jean Armour, the poet's muse and true love. Scheduled to shoot in spring, it will be directed by Vadim Jean from a script by Alan Sharp. Brian Cox, John Hannah, James McAvoy, James Cosmo, David O'Hara and David Hayman also star. (more details) Chuck Norris and Daniel Bernhardt have signed on to star in "The Cutter" for Millennium/NuImage Films. Production will begin this month on the action film, which centers on a detective who must save the life of an old diamond cutter. The film was written by Bruce Haskett and will be directed by Bill Tannen. (more details) Guy Pearce will star in El Camino Pictures' "First Snow," with Syndicate Films handling international sales.
