When John Carpenter said yesterday that this was the time of the remake, he wasn't kidding. Now, a day after it was announced that horror classic "The Fog" is getting the modern update, word comes that the old classic "The Blob" is getting to gloop all over again.

Reuters indicates producer Scott Rudin, who worked on this Summer's remakes of "The Manchurian Candidate" and "The Stepford Wives", will produce the feature for Paramount Pictures along with Jack Harris who produced the original film.

Steve McQueen starred in the original cult classic about a mysterious creature from another planet that resembled a giant blob of jelly and went on a path of destruction and horror as it grew bigger.

Modern audiences will better remember a remake in 1988 by Director Chuck Russell which opted for a more serious horror gore tone. Paramount also has remakes of "The Last Holiday", "A New Leaf" and "The Naked Jungle" planned.
