Gabaldon's Outlander Becomes Franchise

Essential Pictures is turning Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" fantasy novel series into a potential franchise reports Variety.

Gabaldon's series of six novels center on an 18th century Scottish Highlander and his time-traveling wife.

Randall Wallace ("Braveheart") penned an adaptation which is currently out to directors with the aim to start production next spring.

Essential is also developing romantic comedy "Bronwyn and Clyde" with Barry Sonnenfeld ("Men in Black") in negotiations to direct.
