Fox Searchlight has picked up the film adaptation of Tom Wolfe's 1968 novel "The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" says The Hollywood Reporter.

Director Gus Van Sant and writer Dustin Lance Black, who first teamed on the upcoming "Milk" which is getting considerable Oscar buzz, will re-unite on the project.

The story is Wolfe's account of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" author Ken Kesey and a group dubbed the Merry Pranksters as they drive across the country in a DayGlo-painted school bus dubbed Furthur, reaching personal and collective revelations through the use of LSD and other psychedelic drugs.

Richard Gladstein and his Film Colony production company are attached to produce.
