Warner Bros. Pictures has acquired British author Jon Stock's upcoming novel "Dead Spy Running" says the trades.
The book, the first of a trilogy, aims to reinvent the spy genre and tells the origin story of newly trained spy.
The tone is said to mix the flash and energy of "The Bourne Identity" with the grittier and deeper works of John Le Carre ("The Constant Gardener," "The Spy Who Came In From The Cold").
McG ("Charlie's Angels," "Terminator Salvation") will produce and direct at least the first installment.
