New Writing Jobs For Dax, Ehren & Brad

Assorted scribes have landed assorted gigs of late. First up, "The Ring" scribe Ehren Kruger has come aboard to write "John Carter of Mars," which is being directed by Kerry Conran for Paramount Pictures. Based on the first book in Edgar Rice Burroughs' 11-book science-fiction series, "Mars" centers on John Carter, a Civil War officer from Virginia who is transported to Mars and finds himself a captive of the savage green men from Thark. Eventually he rises to become the greatest warrior of all time, marries the beautiful Dejah Thoris, raises a family and embarks on numerous adventures. (full details) Joe Farrell and Catherine Paura's Farrell Paura Prods. will produce romantic comedy "Playing It Straight" at Sony's Columbia Pictures. The comedy, penned by Gregg Ostrin, concerns a work-obsessed man whose relationship with his girlfriend becomes further muddled when he gets too much help from his identical twin gay brother. (full details) "Without a Paddle" star Dax Shepard is swimming over to Revolution Studios with his script "Guerrilla Photographer." Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions is on board to produce. "Guerrilla" centers on an aspiring National Geographic photographer who is forced to take a job as a paparazzo to make ends meet. The photographer then must act like a chameleon to assume different identities in order to get his shots. (full details) Finally, Disney has acquired Brad Gann's spec script "Invincible" . The script follows a bartender from Philadelphia who went to an open tryout for the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles and made the squad.
