News from the Barbershop Cast

At the recent junket for the "Barbershop" sequel, the various cast and crew revealed all sorts of details about their upcoming projects and CHUD was on hand to garner some superb scoopage:

Ice Cube on "xXx 2" "Well, you know, there are producers connected to it, but we're going to have a lot of say in what goes on with the movie.  That's really what me and Lee [Tamahori] are working on - really tailor-making it.  It's really going to come down to a situation where they need another 'specialist.'  I think Samuel L. Jackson is going to be our hinge that gets you from the first movie to the second, but it's going to be totally different circumstances, a totally different guy with a totally different mission. We're going to shoot some in L.A., some in Baltimore".

Cedric the Entertainer on "The Honeymooners" "We're in development still with that.  We're really tightening up the script.  It's real close.  We had to get a writer to really find the voice for myself and Mike Epps and the characters we'll be playing.  Knowing that we cast outside the norm, I wanted to make sure that we were able to service the picture, but also service the nostalgia for The Honeymooners and Gleason and Art Carney and just make sure we make this as a broad comedy, but at the same time, not broad for broad's sake - that we service the people who actually have to act in it.  So, we just really needed to have that in the script.  We're looking to be in production by late May, though.  The studio is really behind it and wants it to happen and so do we.  We're all ready to make it happen"

Eve on "The Woodsman" "First of all, that's a dark film - a really dark film - but it's a really good film.  The character that I play in that, for me, I was just nervous being with Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick.  I was like, I've got to get myself together.  I play this nosy, bitchy chick who's just...nosy and she just wants to know what's going on with Kevin Bacon's character and she kind of blows the lid off his whole life.  I look totally different in the movie.  I have a short, black wig on, dark makeup, so it was fun to get into that"

George Tillman Jr. on "A Conversation with Mann" The producer will direct this feature: "I've got a reading of it this Tuesday with some big actors, so we'll see where I'm at.  It may take another five or six months to get it right.  I may do something else first, but that's one of my favorite stories. It's about a comedian in the sixties.  It's about a guy finding his voice and how he abandoned himself for success and how he finds the courage to find his voice when he's about to go on Ed Sullivan.  The character's a fictional character, but he's in a non-fiction world.  You get to see Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, we get to see Sammy Davis Jr. and a lot of other performers.  His best friend is based off a character named Francine in the movie, but she's based on Dinah Shore.  There's a lot of real characters".

There's heaps more on the "Barbershop" sequel along with other projects like "Johnson Family Vacation" and "Never Die Alone" in the full article.
