It has to be one of the more satisfying Emmy Awards in a long time thanks to voters forgoing sticking with some of the usual warhorses and delivering a few pleasant surprises and much deserved wins for the assorted major categories. For once it seems they actually watched TV last season.
After a long wait, "The Sopranos" finally nabbed the best drama Emmy whilst Fox's much acclaimed "Arrested Development" took best comedy although "Frasier" and "Sex and the City" won in many of the comedy acting categories. Lead actor in a drama went to James Spader for "The Practice" & Allison Janney won for "The West Wing".
On the mini-series front, no surprise there that "Angels in America" took in seven awards including nods for best miniseries and kudos to participants Meryl Streep, Mike Nichols, Al Pacino, Jeffrey Wright, Mary-Louise Parker and Tony Kushner. Here's a list of the key awards:
