Just a few days before its world premiere at Toronto, Oscilloscope Laboratories has just acquired U.S. rights to Julio Medem’s “Ma Ma” starring and produced by Penelope Cruz.

A chance encounter following a grim medical diagnosis connects a woman named Magda (Cruz) with soccer star Arturo (Luis Tosar) who is, himself, dealing with unspeakable loss. Together, they raise her son while grappling with the realities of their situations. [Source: Deadline]

Mallbrats
Kevin Smith has announced on social media that production on “Mallbrats,” the upcoming sequel to his classic 1994 comedy “Mallrats,” will begin in January at the Exton Square Mall in Pennsylvania.

StarStream is financing the project which is expected to feature the return of Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Ethan Suplee, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, Renee Humphrey, Joey Lauren Adams, Sven-Ole Thorsen, Scott Mosier, Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanagan, Brian O’Halloran, Claire Forlani, Jason Mewes and Smith himself on screen. The Crusaders
“Luther” star Idris Elba will executive produce “The Crusaders” for Legendary Television and di Bonaventura Television. FOX has handed out a script order with Thomas Ikimi set to write the pilot which revolves around an extended family of second-generation Africans living in the United States.

This family specializes in locating and returning valuable objects stolen from Africa during colonial occupation. Ikimi, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Dan McDermott are also on board to executive produce. [Source: The Live Feed]

I Saw the Light
Loki himself, actor Tom Hiddleston, is taking on a new challenge in the form of the Hank Williams biopic “I Saw the Light” in which he plays the famed American country music singer. The first clip from the film has been released and shows Hiddleston as Williams laying down the track “Move it on Over” which became his first big hit.
