News Bits: Hunger, Doctors, Ping, Insidious 3

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1
Lionsgate and Google are teaming for “District Voices,” a weeklong video series in which top YouTube creators tacke the dystopian world of “The Hunger Games”. The move is part of the distributor’s efforts to promote next month’s release of “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1”.

Each episode will cover a different facet of life in the fictional world and will be presented as “programming sanctioned by the totalitarian Panem regime”. The videos will run on both the Capitol TV website and the film’s YouTube channel. Amongst those participating are members of popular Youtube channels such as iJustine, Feast of Fiction, Veritasium, FightTIPS and Threadbanger. [Source: Variety]

20th Century Fox has scored the rights to Dash Shaw’s indie graphic novel “Doctors” with David Goyer set to produce through his Phantom Four production company.

The story follows a doctor and his team who can go into a dead person’s consciousness in the form of a memory and temporarily bring them back to life. When a woman hires the doctor to bring back her mother, we see what happens when the dead don’t want to return. [Source: Heat Vision]

Ping Pong Diplomacy
Patrick Burleigh and Will Widger have been hired to pen an adaptation of Nicholas Griffin’s non-fiction book “Ping Pong Diplomacy” for Village Roadshow Pictures and Story Mining & Supply Company.

The story deals with the 1971 Table Tennis World Championships, where the unlikely friendship between American player Glenn Cowan and China player Zhuang Zedong set the media ablaze and drove both administrations scrambling, leading to the historic summit between Richard Nixon and Mao Zedong. Insidious 3
Eight new behind-the-scenes photos have been released from Focus Features’ much anticipated sequel “Insidious Chapter 3”. Leigh Whannell makes his directorial debut on the project which stars Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott and Lin Shaye.
