New “X-Men” Headed For $80M Opening

Opening to a very robust $100 million globally last weekend, Bryan Singer’s “X-Men: Apocalypse” is now slated for a U.S. opening this coming weekend and early tracking has it performing similarly to “X-Men: Days of Future Past” with a debut anywhere from $80-100 million.

Sadly the film has two factors limiting it. One is that IMAX screens have been booked out by Disney for the studio’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass” which is expected to make between $55 million to $60 million on opening in North America.

The other is the film’s reviews, ‘Apocalypse’ is currently one of the worst reviewed instalments in the franchise to date with a 53% and 5.7/10 on Rotten Tomatoes along with a 51/100 on Metacritic.

‘Apocalypse’ came in at a budget of $178 million, cheaper than ‘Days of Future Past’ which ultimately earned $748 million at the global box-office.
