Films don’t always work, just ask Gus Van Sant. Despite the filmmaker’s prestige and a stellar cast including Matthew McConaughey, Naomi Watts and Ken Watanabe, his new feature “Sea of Trees” has forged a painful path to the screen.
The film follows an American professor who heads to Japan to kill himself in a famed ‘suicide’ forest – only to cross paths with a enigmatic stranger – together embarking on a spiritual, life-changing journey of friendship. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last year and was eviscerated by critics, since then it has kept to itself with little word on a release.
Now, it is finally set to hit screens with a limited theatrical run and VOD premiere on August 26th. Check out the just released U.S. trailer for the feature below.
