New “Star Wars” To Get IMAX Sequences

The official Twitter account for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company today posted a photo that seems to confirm a longstanding rumor – that at least part of the upcoming “Star Wars: Episode VII” is being shot with IMAX cameras.

Abrams directed “Star Trek Into Darkness” and produced “Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol,” each of which boasted approximately half an hour of their final runtimes using footage shot with IMAX cameras.

The shot below, taken on the Abu Dhabi set doubling for Tatooine, at least indicate that some of the scenes set on that backwater desert planet will boast the larger scale format.
