One month out from the release of J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” and EW has done a lengthy piece on the final film of the trilogy with a bunch of new photos, a swank new Dolby Cinema poster, story details and quotes.
Set a full year beyond the events of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” Oscar Isaac says the Resistance is messily still trying to pull itself together again: “They’re trying to put bandaids on this leaking ship of the Resistance.”
The report indicates the new film will offer a definitive explanation of Rey’s parents which was seemingly revealed in ‘Last Jedi,’ but actress Daisy Ridley explains there’s more to it than that. How much more and how much that will undo Rian Johnson’s “they were nobodies” stance in the last film though, she plays coy:
“The parents thing is not satisfied – for her and for the audience. That’s something she’s still trying to figure out – where does she come from? It’s not that she doesn’t believe it, but she feels there’s more to the story. And she needs to figure out what’s come before so she can figure out what to do next.”
The film’s director J.J. Abrams says the new film’s production actually went smoother than the one he had for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” confirming that film had more reshoots and story adjustments than this one. He even tells Total Film (via Games Radar) that he was able to tell the same story that they would have had Carrie Fisher lived.
“There are scenes where she’s interacting with other characters in a way that is uncanny. Hopefully, if it works, it will be an invisible thing and if you didn’t know, you would never know. But we got to tell the story with Leia that we would have told had Carrie lived. And that’s kind of incredible.”
“Star War: The Rise Of Skywalker” opens December 18th. Check out the photos and cover in the album below, along with the just-released new Dolby Cinema poster.
