It has been a busy few days for “Star Wars” rumors and news, time to break it all down.
First up, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” concept artist Iain McCaig spoke earlier this month at a conference in New Zealand with tidbits from that popping online yesterday over at StarWarsNewsNet.
According to them, McCaig says Lawrence Kasdan penned the script for the “Han Solo: A Star Wars Story” standalone film before he began work on ‘Force Awakens’. Of the script, McCaig said: “By far the best Star Wars script, and one of the best scripts period, that I have ever read. I laughed, I cried, I did all the things you should do when reading a good script. You’re in for a treat.”
He also indicated that after selling Lucasfilm to Disney, George Lucas decided he wanted to be involved and wrote a script for Episode VII which was “rejected outright” by Disney. Apparently Lucas brought in McCaig and another prequel artist to Skywalker Ranch to help him realize his concepts.
A number of initial script ideas teased the involvement of Anakin/Vader’s Force ghost – something we saw in early concept art form in “The Art of The Force Awakens” book. The report also claims that Disney executives were originally “reluctant to include non-Caucasian characters,” but J.J. Abrams was very adamant in bringing a multi-cultural cast to his film.
Next up, Making Star Wars has posted a report indicating that actress Valene Kane may be playing Lyra Erso, either sister or mother (in flashback scenes) of Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso in the upcoming “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”.
Finally, Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy and filmmaker J.J. Abrams are playable characters in the video game “Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens” which hit shelves this week. Both characters can accept Resistance mission, command troops, and use a blaster.
