Lionsgate and Millennium’s “Rambo: Last Blood” tracking figures are in and this fifth and potential final film in the saga looks set to have a best of franchise opening.
The Sylvester Stallone-led action feature opens on September 20th and right now the film is tracking for a $21-24 million domestic opening weekend haul above 1982’s “First Blood” ($6.8M), 1985’s “Rambo: First Blood Part II” ($20.1M), 1988’s “Rambo III” ($13M) and 2008’s “Rambo” ($18.2M).
The movie will open up against the Brad Pitt-led sci-fi epic “Ad Astra” which is targeting a $17.5-19 million start, while the “Downton Abbey” is on track for a $15-16 million opening weekend. They’ll also contend with the second weekend of the Jennifer Lopez-led “Hustlers” which opens September 12th and is on course for a $26 million debut.
Adrian Grunberg helms the new “Rambo” which was written by Stallone and Matthew Cirulnick. It is rated R.
