Following the first official photo released yesterday, EW have posted a few more official stills from “The Fifth Element” director Luc Besson’s trippy new retro sci-fi film adaptation of the acclaimed French comic “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets”.
Cara Delevingne and Dane DeHaan star in the film as time and space travelling police investigators. Besson explains why the pair have Hawaiian shirts on in one of the photos below – turns out the film has a Bond-style opening with us coming into a mission “in media res” ahead of the film’s main storyline:
“It’s a part of the first mission. Beginning of the film. Like when you see James Bond, there’s always that one mission first. It’s the James Bond-style pre-story mission. They are in the middle of this big mission, and they’re disguised, so that’s why they’re dressed that way. They try to escape. It’s pretty funny how they have to escape.”
Another shot shows off the police robot named K-Tron who Besson says is a tough military police style character but only a minor one in the film which co-stars Clive Owen, Ethan Hawke, Rutger Hauer, John Goodman, Herbie Hancock and Rihanna. It is slated to open next Summer.
