All of the attention paid to the “X-Men” franchise this week has been about “Dark Phoenix” and its recent launch of two new trailers, the great big spoiler within them, and the baffling decision to delete the far superior trailer that went online.
However, there’s another “X-Men” film on the way, the young adult-skewering horror film “The New Mutants”. At last report reshoots were initially expected to happen sometime last summer in order to add more horror elements to the film, but that didn’t happen and no additional photography has yet been scheduled.
At present, the film is slated to open August 2nd and THR reports that the project remains firmly in the hands of director Josh Boone for the moment. In addition, they say while it very likely will get a release, it’s a “safe bet” that it could well bypass cinemas and make its way to the new Disney+ streaming service to premiere.
Disney is expected to complete its acquisition of 20th Century Fox by mid-March at which time it will likely start shaking up Fox’s product currently in the pipeline.
