New Line has scored the worldwide rights to distribute the documentary “Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around the World” about young cancer survivor Miles Scott and the Make-a-Wish event which took the world by storm.
As part of the deal though, the company has also been picked up the narrative remake rights to the project which Julia Roberts is slated to star in and will produce with Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres.
Scott is a boy fighting leukemia who had one wish – to be a sidekick to Batman. Through Make-a-Wish, and social media, his dream became a phenomenon with thousands lining the streets of San Francisco to cheer him on and millions more following online.
The documentary premiered at this year’s Slamdance Film Festival and is expected to get a cinematic release later this year.
