The countdown appears to be on for the first trailer of Andy Muschietti’s “IT,” the first of a two-film adaptation of the Stephen King masterpiece.
Today, Muschietti posted a photo on Instagram of a balloon with the number ‘6’ on it. This has already led to the suggestion it’s a countdown to the trailer’s premiere which would be mid-next week.
The first footage from the film screened at SXSW the other week and a Warner Bros. rep has confirmed to BD that the footage shown there will NOT be released online, but a trailer is soon.
Also today, Empire has released a new high quality photo from the project, and a quote from the director about his aim with Bill Skarsgard’s Pennywise the Clown:
“There’s supposed to be a less-is-more thing in horror. It’s like you’re not really meant to show the monster. But Pennywise is different. With Pennywise, it’s like, ‘This is the monster, I’m showing it to you… and you’re going to s–t a brick.'”
This would match with reviews of the SXSW footage which were all pretty much glowing and indicated this film’s take on Pennywise is much more a pure aggressive monster than Tim Curry’s iconic switching between menacing & playful on a dime in the 1990s mini-series adaptation.
The new “IT” is slated to open in cinemas on September 8th.
