Ignoring the disappointing box-office for the recent live-action adaptation, Production I.G. is set to produce a new anime projects in the “Ghost in the Shell” franchise.
Kenji Kamiyama and Shinji Aramaki are developing the new project, but it’s not clear if it’s a theatrical feature, a television series or in some other format. A title and potential release date have also not been announced.
Masamune Shirow conceived the original story in as a comic in 1989 which lead to Mamoru Oshii’s classic animation film from 1995 which directly inspired many subsequent works including most notably The Wachowski’s “The Matrix” trilogy.
The ‘Ghost’ franchise has generated animated feature films, TV series, games, a novel and original video animations (OVAs.)
