HBO has released nine new photos from the fifth episode of the eighth season of their big-budget fantasy series “Game of Thrones”.
Miguel Sapochnik, who helmed the other week’s “The Long Night” episode, returns for the episode which will feature the long-awaited Battle of King’s Landing as Daenerys and Cersei’s forces go head-to-head.
The episode is the second-to-last of the entire series and clocks in at a near 90-minute feature length. Unlike the last battle however, this one seems to take place entirely in the day so the audience shouldn’t have a visibility issue as so many did with “The Long Night” episode.
The photos come as the show has undergone some heavy criticism, especially in the wake of last week’s episode. Along with the more lighthearted jokes about a misplaced coffee cup, there’s also been a thorough analysis of a conversation scene between Sansa and The Hound in which it’s suggested the rape and violence she was subjected to (ie. her being “broken in rough” says The Hound) made her stronger.
Numerous columns have been written about the scene, and actress Jessica Chastain posted a highly circulated tweet saying: “Rape is not a tool to make a character stronger. A woman doesn’t need to be victimized in order to become a butterfly. The #littlebird was always a Phoenix. Her prevailing strength is solely because of her. And her alone. #GameOfThrones”
No doubt more words will be shared about this weekend’s episode as well when it airs on Sunday night.
