Lionsgate has picked up the rights to the action-thriller “Hunter Killer” starring Gerard Butler, Gary Oldman, Michael Nyqvist, and Common. Arne Schmidt and Jamie Moss penned the script based on Keith and George Wallace’s 2012 novel “Firing Point”.
The plan is for an October 26th theatrical release of the Donovan Marsh-directed film about an untested American submarine captain who teams with Navy SEALs to rescue the Russian president who has been kidnapped by a rogue general. Filming took place mid-2016 in London.
Also today, STXfilms and Lakeshore Entertainment have set a September 7th domestic release date for the Jennifer Garner action-thriller “Peppermint” from “Taken” director Pierre Morel.
Garner portrays a mother who awakens from a coma after her husband and daughter are killed in a brutal attack on the family. When the system shields the murderers from justice, Riley she sets out to transform herself from citizen to urban guerrilla. John Ortiz, Juan Pablo Raba, John Gallagher Jr. and Richard Cabral co-star.
Next, SXSW audience favorite “Hearts Beat Loud” will open in limited release on June 8th before expanding in subsequent weeks.
Nick Offerman (“Parks & Recreation”) and Kiersey Clemons (“Dope”) star in the story about a widower’s complicated relationship with his college-bound daughter and the experience of digital era popularity when his music is embraced by the Spotify community. Ted Danson, Sasha Lane, Blythe Danner, and Toni Collette co-star.
Finally, Fathom Events and YouTube are teaming up for a one-night only event – holding special screenings of the original 1984 “The Karate Kid” along with the first two episodes of the upcoming sequel series “Cobra Kai”.
The event is scheduled to take place on April 25 and will screen at nearly 700 theaters across the nation. The special screenings will take place at 7pm local time with tickets for the event scheduled to go on sale today.
