Chooseco LLC, the Vermont-based publisher of the ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ book series, has announced it is suing Netflix in federal court on Friday.
The company alleges that the streaming service’s recent film “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch” infringes on its trademarks and seeks at least $25 million in damages.
The suit claims Netflix sought a license to use the ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ trademark over the last couple of years, but negotiations never resulted in a deal. 20th Century Fox recently optioned the rights to develop an interactive film series based on the books.
‘Bandersnatch’ allows viewers to direct the character’s action’s leading to a variety of possible endings and many different permutations of the story. Characters within the film mention the ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ book series, but unlike the books the film is not aimed at young adult readers and the suit claims that the violent imagery tarnishes their brand.
