“L.A. Confidential” scribe turned “42” and “Legend” filmmaker Brian Helgeland is set to helm “Button Man” for Netflix.
Based on the graphic novel by John Wagner and Arthur Ranson, the story follows ex-military contractor Harry Exton who is considered the first true hero of the post-truth age. Exton is a proxy in a clandestine competition among the super-rich.
Paid to fight to the death in modern-day gladiatorial contests, Exton sets out on a relentless journey to use these twisted elites’ own dark machine to bring their corrupt world crashing down. Helgeland is about to begin casting, but no production start date has been set as yet.
Also today, Netflix has locked in “Creep” and “The Overnight” helmer Patrick Brice to direct their film adaptation of Stephanie Perkins’ novel “There’s Someone Inside Your House”.
The project is dubbed a blend of 80 & 90s slasher and coming of age film classics. Henry Gayden (“Shazam!”) will pen the adaptation while Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps and James Wan’s Atomic Monster produce. Filming aims to begin this Fall.
