Netflix Scores Rights To Fukunaga’s “Maniac”

Following their successful collaboration on the film “Beasts of No Nation,” streaming service giant Netflix will re-team with filmmaker Cary Fukunaga for his upcoming ten episode straight-to-series dark comedy “Maniac” which Paramount TV and Anonymous Content will produce.

Emma Stone and Jonah Hill star in this remake of the 2014 Norwegian comedy series with Fukunaga set to helm every episode. That trio will executive produce alongside Michael Sugar and Doug Wald.

The story follows a mental patient at the psychiatric ward who escapes reality and lives in a fantasy world in his mind. A search for a writer is now underway.

The announcement follows on from Netflix’s recent acquisition of another comedy series, “Santa Clarita Diet,” starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant.
